New release — A Prayer for Liberation

New EP, meditation music by Praful & Dana Devi

December 13 2022

As of 13 December on Bandcamp only, official release on all other portals will be on winter solstice, 21 December!
A Prayer for Liberation is a deeply meditative track for yoga, meditation, healing and massage. It is based on the ancient Sanskrit Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, the recital of which is said to help overcome any obstacles we may need to face, as well as overcome fear and ultimately death (our biggest obstacle).
It is also known as the Great Death-Conquering Mantra. Whenever there is stress, grief or illness, or when fear of death appears, this great mantra can be used for healing, for maintaining vitality, and for refuge.

Om Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushti Vardhanam Urvaarukamiva Bandhanaan Mrityoor Mukshiya Maamritat Om Shanti Shanti Shanti

We worship the three-eyed One (Shiva), who is fragrant and who nourishes all. Like the fruit falls off from the bondage of the stem, may we be liberated from death, from immortality.

Inspiration for this new creation was the song ‘A Prayer for Healing’, which was released back in 2017 by Praful, Dana Devi&the band Spirited Tribe on the album Silence Speaks. In this long piece co-conceived by Vimal Gabrielsen, a Sanskrit shloka (long Mantra) was also sung in a very slow, stretched-out and healing way, inviting in the listener an experience of stillness and vastness. With A Prayer for Liberation we are offering a sequel to this much-loved piece, with Dana Devi on lead vocals, Praful on many instruments&vocals, and special guest Zhubin Kalhor from Iran on kamanche.

There are 2 versions, a long one (22 minutes) and a short one (10 minutes).
